A LITTLE HELP, PLEASE?

OK, so I promised myself that I would try to post at least one blog a week, but I have nothing quilty to tell you about - yet.  However, I am trying hard to figure out how the blog program works.  I have noticed that some blogs show all the comments right underneath the entry.  I would like to set mine up for that too, but I can't figure out how.  Any help out there?  I chose the updated editor.  Think that has anything to do with it?

In the meantime, thanks all for your warm welcome.  Love, I tried to email you but I couldn't find an address on your site.   I put mine up for all of you, feel free to email anytime.   I have the new APQ button (it is so cool) but I am not sure I have signed up to follow everyone's blog.   Email me if my name is not on your follower's list.   Is anybody going to sign their blog up for Quilters Blog list?  I am thinking about it.

Now, I have to take some pictures.  I need an Avatar and a heading picture to start with.  How do I put in a background?   Sorry this entry skips around so much, but sometimes my mind does the same thing, LOL.

  1. I think my brain works like yours...

I don't know that blogger will let us show comments below posts...I can't figure out how either, but I like mine to be hidden until someone wants to see them...

As for a background (you mean something like is on the sides of my blog, right? (katiemaytoo)), there are a number of websites offering free backgrounds and they are added to your blog in computer language, aka "code". You'll need to go into the "customize" function on the top right of your blog page, choose the "layout" tab and click on an "add a gadget" box. Any of those on the right side will do, as it won't actually show up as an extra thingie on the side of your blog. The "gadget" to add would be "HTML/JavaScript". You can give it a title if you want, but it's not necessary. Then you must copy and paste the "code" from the background of your choosing into the big box labelled "content". Hit "Save" and you're done. Sounds more complicated than it is - finding the "code" is sometimes difficult - some of the websites aren't as easy as others from what I've seen. There are probably other ways, but that's how I did mine. Good luck!

  2. Hi Liri! Your comments seem to be on show. Kelli has the rest of your questions solved I think. Your blog is looking fine so far. That's a lovely picture in your header. You know, you don't always have to post about quilting here. Anything that takes your fancy is just fine - a good book, recipe, website, giveaway, etc. Let loose! Cheers Ann :-)

  3. Liri, I like the comments below my blog rather than in the pop-up window. Here's how I got it to work.
From your "Dashboard", click on "Settings", then on "Comments", then scroll down to "Comment Form Placement", and click on "Embedded Below Post".

I love the picture in your heading. I'd bet you did most of that work, if not all. It is lovely!

I'm still struggling with getting pictures to go where I want them to go! It just surely isn't as hard as I'm making it! But I'll master it yet! You will too! ---"Love"

  4. Katie: Thanks for the help. I was hoping I could compose my own background. Do you know any way to upload a picture behind the blog?
I looked for something like that when I uploaded my header and changed the font and color but could find nothing that said "Change background."

Ann: I will have to take your word for it. When I enter my blog from the dashboard, I can't see the comments. I would really like to enter answers under each of them. And, yes, I have been reading lots of other blogs and I see how it is done. I will be blogging about lots of stuff as well as quilting.

Love: I have the settings just as you listed but, for some reason, I have to click on the comments link below the posts. I don't know what is going on. Far as the picture, the little fairy was a Christmas gift from my eldest son; the embroidery is mine; the little milk pitcher has a matching sugar bowl and was a gift from a dear friend; and the doilies, little purse, and trimmings were flea market finds. I kinda like the way is turned out.

  6. I meant to tell you that when I first view my blog, I have to click on the word "Comments" below the blog, and then they all drop down, those that I've approved already. Sorry for the confusion. We're learning! ---"Love"

  7. Looks like you are way ahead of me. I am still messing around trying to get photos posted. (Of courseI am the one who followed APQ for years but never signed up because I didn't think I could get the tech part). I will keep plugging along because it is so much fun!
    "see" you soon. Beth
