BOOKS, BOOKS, I LOVE BOOKS!

I am sure you have noticed the Paperbackswap.com button on my sidebar (it was at the top of the page but I couldn't make that one link).  That is a link to the website and I need to tell you about it.  It has the potential to make all your book wishes come true.

Check out this book the front and back of this book:

Doesn't seem like much does it, until you open it.  Here are a few of the quilt designs inside:

Yes, Love, the last quilt is a needlepoint Sunbonnet Sue!  All the patterns are in the book and they are full size.   And there are alot more designs.  I love this book!

The point of all this?  I ordered the book through Paperbackswap.com and it was free!  I joined the site in November, 2009, and so far I have requested and received over 30 books.  Many of them I have wanted for years but they were too expensive.

I urge all of you to check out the website and see how it works.

  2. I've looked into the paperback swap website, but my schedule and the schedule of the post office don't match up well (to be honest, in this town, I'm not sure WHO can make it to the post office when they're open!), so I didn't join. But my stack of reading books is getting awfully short and I bet there's a lot of quilting books out there too...maybe I'll rethink it thanks to your post...

  3. Well, Liri, will you be doing the Sun Bonnet Sue's? They are precious! I too checked out the website, and did a search for "quilting". Lots of books came up! I didn't sign up either right now, may later. But I did tell a couple of avid reader friends about it. I think they will love it! Thanks for sharing such a find!

Also I looked in on your Modern Quilt Guild website; very nice!! I'm sure that will be fun!

  6. Katie: You can work around that schedule. I have been notified a few times about that. There are mechanisms to handle that.

Love: The Sunbonnet Sue patterns that are shown are for needlepoint (which I hate). But further on there is a pattern for a Sue done in candlewicking, but there is only one Sue. I can convert the candlewicked Sue to a line drawing, but it would take a bit more effort to convert the charted Sue's. However, they are so cute I just may try it, but not today, LOL.

Christine: Yes, signed up, going to attend the meeting in Fishtown and uploaded my finished quilt pictures, too. You going to attend the meeting? I would love to meet you.

Ann: You will love it! So many books, so little time!

  7. I am going to check out that paperbook swap website... may not be practical for Canadian delivery, but I am intrigued!

I too like to collect older quilt books. The techniques are not what draws me in, but the designs.

  8. Oh, Alice, me too. I have been looking for designs like in this book. The Teddy Bears are absolutely adorable. And the flowers? Oh, they make my fingers itch. I would be more than happy to share. I can send you samples of each and you could choose what you would like. Let me know.
