PATRIOTIC DENIM AND SOME OTHER STUFF

Well, I finally did it!  I finally got the Patriotic Denim quilt started.  This idea has been inside my head for so long, since about 2008 or maybe earlier, LOL, and it is starting to come together.  Here are a few of the blocks I have completed so far.  They are 13 inches square and will finish at 12 inches.

Somewhere along the line while I was researching denim quilts, it was recommended that a 1/2 inch seam was advisable because denim frays so easily.   I had to redraft the entire block (its' Card Trick, btw) to accommodate those seams.  As a result, I can only manage one block per day, but it is on its way.  The plan is for 2 inch denim sashing between the blocks and (hopefully) white stars on the cornerstones between the rows.  Flit is working on figuring out the stars.

Also finished the pillow shams for Rita's Water Ice.  Nothing fancy, but here they are:

I am giving this quilt to one of my sisters (I have 6 of them).  The other five will have to wait for a while, LOL.

Would anyone be interested in these items?
Filet crochet cotton and a number of old crochet pattern books.  Remember that bag of stuff St. Vincent's threw away that I found the train transfers in?  Well, these were in there too.  There must be somebody in blog land that would appreciate them.

And this:
My husband found these.  The clothing is in very good condition and so is the doll's body.  The legs and head are broken but the arms are in great shape.  Anyone interested?

Still working on pinwheels too, LOL.  This quilt will be called Summer Breezes.  I have moved it up to the WIP list.  No pictures yet, but I am using the left over pinwheels from Rita's Water Ice.

That's all for now.  There will be lots of pictures for my end of month post.

LEIBSTER AWARD AND A FINISH

Having thought long and hard about this award, I have finally come up with three blogs I would like to pass this to.
They are:

for her unusual choice of fabrics for her quilts.

Ann Hermes of Notes from the Quilt Lab for her wonderful
miniature quilts and quilt history.

"Love" of I Just Love Quilts for her ability to work quilts into
everyday life and her fabulous collection of vintage quilts.

Ladies, I do hope you enjoy this award.  I love your blogs and look forward to reading every post.

Now for the finish.  The Rita's Water Ice top is complete.  It is definitely a queen size quilt.  I am working on the shams but I need to make a few more pinwheels.  Here she is in all her glory.
I had a hard time photographing this, LOL.  You can see my sewing table in the corner.  I love the way it turned out.  I had thought to give this quilt to one of my sisters but found out the one I had in mind only has a twin bed.  No hurry, though, I still need batting.

That makes four tops done.  Hooray!

AN AWARD AND FEBRUARY UPDATE

Well, much to tell you this month.  First off, Ruth of Country Log Cabin Quilter granted me a Liebster Award.  Thank you so much, Ruth!

I have to tell you I was floored and then I went into panic mode.  Much as I appreciate the award, I am not sure I can live up to Ruth's confidence in me.  However, I will do my best.  I know I have to pass the award along to 3 other bloggers with less than 300 followers but it is hard making that choice.  I have much to consider so I will wait and handle that in a separate post.  So many to choose from!  'Nuff said about that for now.

I am sure you all remember that lovely embroidered silk jacket I found at the thrift shop.   Although I am not yet sure it has arrived, I passed it along to Kathleen (seventhsister26).  Kathleen said she was into jackets and, really, it was in pristine condition.  I am not even sure it was ever used!  Although I would have used it in a quilt, I felt Kathleen would enjoy it more.  (Kathleen, did it arrive yet?)

Now for some project updates.  The Pinwheel Parade top and sham are completed.  I still need batting and backing to complete.  I can't thank Kathleen enough for her wonderful black & white scraps.  Flit did a great job, yes?
This quilt is going to my niece's little boy.  He is the same age as Warren.

Two corners of Rita's Water Ice are complete and the third corner is on the design wall.  I am flipping the corners so each is the same but the orientation is different.  (Yes, those are the basket blocks across the top.)
I am having fun with these pinwheels and have so many I think there is another quilt in there!

Two more rows of blocks added to the Cathedral Windows but I don't count them as complete until the colors are in!
Four more embroideries for Delectable Diamonds completed.  They still have to be washed and mounted.  Here they are on the handkerchief.

Close ups of the individual stitcheries.

I have four more in the works.  Two are complete and one in progress, plus another four chosen but not yet transfered.  I am not sure this will be enough, but we shall see.

The "A Tisket, A Tasket" blocks are coming along slowly.  I have the baskets figured out but no applique is yet completed, save for the three that are already done.
And last, I have started putting the sashing strips on the Fabric Frolic units.  I have 300 units complete and I think that is enough for one King and one Queen size quilt.  I may have to make a few more for the shams.  These are all made from scraps.  I think they are looking pretty good.
So, that's it for my January progress.  I am going to try to post these progress reports the first (well, maybe around the first) of every month.  In the meantime, look on my sidebar under the WIP list for little updates through the month.

So, what have you been doing the past month?
